With Californian's multi-instrumentalist and accomplished session musician Sasami Ashworth's highly-anticipated self-titled debut album looming ever closer, new single 'Free' exposes a different side of SASAMI's sound. Featuring soothing vocals from Devendra Banhart, 'Free' takes a considerably more stripped back approach to her eclectic brand of alt-pop than previous singles 'Not The Time' and 'Jealousy'. Opening with a sea of carefully-crafted feedback, 'Free' quickly pulls back the noise to reveal a simple, atmospheric chord sequence peppered with unexpectedly somber guitar flourishes. Speaking of the track SASAMI said, “‘Free’ is a lopsided duet about how destiny plays into matters of the heart – how sometimes when you lose in love, freedom is the consolation prize, and in that way, you’ve actually transcended”. Check out the video here now. -Holly Mullineaux
